Policies, in plain language
The rules that apply to everyone on CommuteX. Version 2026-09. Your booking keeps the version that applied when you booked.
Cancellations & refunds
- Cancel more than 6 hours before departure: full refund.
- Cancel 1–6 hours before: 80% of the fare back.
- Cancel within 1 hour of departure: 50% of the fare back.
- If the host cancels, you always get a full refund.
- The service fee is refunded whenever a trip doesn't happen.
- Seats are held for 15 minutes while you pay. Unpaid bookings are never confirmed.
- Refunds go back to your original payment method, usually within 5–7 working days.
If the host makes a significant change (departure time moves by more than 15 minutes or the route changes), you can cancel for a full refund with no effect on your reliability score.
If a host marks you as a no-show and that's wrong, tell us from the booking page within 24 hours. A person reviews every dispute.
Payments & earnings
Passengers pay the seat price set by the host plus a small service fee, shown before you pay. Bookings are only confirmed once payment succeeds — a failed payment never confirms a seat.
Hosts' earnings become available to withdraw 24 hours after a completed trip. The minimum payout is ₹100. If a payout fails, the full amount returns to your available balance and you can retry.
We never withhold earnings because location tracking failed. A trip counts as completed when the host ends it; passengers can report a trip that didn't happen within 24 hours, and a person reviews it.
Price per seat is capped by distance so carpooling stays about sharing costs.
Reliability score
Your score starts at 100 and only counts the last 90 days. Cancellations cost 3 points, late cancellations (within 6 hours of departure) 8, and no-shows 15 — per 10 trips, so one bad day doesn't define you.
Cancellations caused by the other person, by us, or by a significant ride change don't count. You can see every event affecting your score and the date it stops counting.
Community guidelines
- Be on time, and message early if plans change.
- Drive safely and legally. Hosts must hold a valid licence and insurance.
- Treat co-travellers with respect. Harassment, discrimination and threats lead to permanent removal.
- Keep payments in the app. Asking for cash or transfers outside the app isn't allowed.
- Carpooling is cost-sharing, not a commercial taxi service.
Privacy
Other members see your first name, photo, verification badges, ratings and reliability — never your phone number, email or exact home and work locations.
We don't store identity documents. Location is only sampled during an active trip, rounded to about 100 metres, and deleted after 30 days.
You can ask for a copy of your data or account deletion by writing to support@commutex.app. Financial records are retained as required by law.
Terms of use

By using CommuteX you agree to follow these policies and the community guidelines. We may restrict accounts that put others at risk, always with a stated reason and a way to contact support.
